What Does Turbonomic Have Planned for VMworld 2016?

As part of VMblog's live VMworld 2016 coverage coming up next week, we're in the final stretch of finalizing our schedule.  As we do so, one thing is clear: We're extremely excited to visit the Solutions Expo this year and make it a huge part of our plans.  But with so many vendors exhibiting, how do you know which booths to visit and who to get on your schedule?

One of my "must see" companies is definitely Turbonomic.  No, this isn't a new company.  They have been active in the virtualization and cloud community for many years, but you might better know them as VMTurbo.  In case you missed the news a week ago, VMTurbo rebranded themselves as Turbonomic.  New name, same vision.  They've earned a place on my must see list because every year at VMworld, they find a way to outdo themselves.  And this year, they told me they are going even bigger than last year!  More about the company:

Turbonomic’s Autonomic Platform enables heterogeneous environments to self-manage to assure the performance of any application in any cloud. Turbonomic’s patented decision engine dynamically analyzes application demand and allocates shared resources in real time to maintain a continuous state of application health. Launched in 2010, Turbonomic is one of the fastest growing technology companies in the virtualization and cloud space. Turbonomic’s Autonomic Platform is trusted by thousands of enterprises to accelerate their adoption of virtual, cloud, and container deployments for all mission critical applications.

VMblog:  As a VMworld 2016 sponsor, how can people find you this year?

Turbonomic:  Easy! We'll be at booth #1139 this year. This is our largest VMworld presence ever, and the booth and our presentations are going to be something you won't want to miss. Come drop by to pick up some new Turbonomic Swag and say hello!

Turbonomic Booth

VMblog:  Is there anything interesting or unique about this year's booth setup?

Turbonomic:  Complete missions in our Green Circle Community to earn points and then cash them in at our booth for some awesome swag. We'll also have "live" missions you can complete at our booth. This year, we'll be giving away top dollar swag like a TurboStack Home Lab, Oculus Rifts, Amazon Taps, BB-8 Droids, and a custom Raspberry Pi 3 kit.

VMblog:  If an attendee likes what they see and hear at your booth... what message about your product can you send them back with to sell their boss on your technology?

Turbonomic:  Turbonomic is the autonomic platform that enables cloud and virtualized environments to self-organize and self-manage while assuring application performance. It continuously matches application demand to infrastructure supply - without IT having to think about it.

Turbonomic drives everything from legacy virtualization to multi-cloud environments to be able to assure application performance and utilize your infrastructure as efficiently as possible. Our autonomic platform enables you to accelerate your next transformation and deliver the applications your users demand across the entire IT ecosystem.

VMblog:  Why should a VMworld attendee add you to their MUST SEE list?

Turbonomic:  We are the ONLY company that actually assures application performance on any infrastructure for any workload, from on-premises to hybrid and public clouds.  Our patented Economic Scheduling Engine assures performance at every layer of the IT stack.

VMblog:  What do you like most about sponsoring VMworld?

Turbonomic:  It's truly a great event for the entire community. This is the premier event for cloud and virtualization experts to share their knowledge and learn about new, up and coming technology. It's a wonderful time and we look forward to it each year.

VMblog:  Can you give VMblog readers a sneak peek as to what you will be showing off at your booth this year?

Turbonomic:  This year, we'll be featuring our Green Circle Community. We'll also have over 20 unique presentations by customers from different industries and sizes. We'll be showing off our new brand and why we chose to evolve from VMTurbo into Turbonomic.

VMblog:  If you would, please explain or give readers a few reasons why your product or service is considered unique?

Turbonomic:  Turbonomic's Autonomic Platform enables heterogeneous environments to self-manage to assure the performance of any application in any cloud. Turbonomic's patented decision engine dynamically analyzes application demand and allocates shared resources in real time to maintain a continuous state of application health.

Rather than monitoring resource allocation, or automating a ‘fix' when something breaks, Turbonomic prevents problems before they occur.

VMblog:  How does your company and product fit within the VMware ecosystem?

Turbonomic:  We leverage the vSphere management APIs through vCenter and vCloud Director to gather instrumentation from the environment and control workload placement and sizing, all in real-time and completely agentless.  We pride ourselves on the ease of deployment and rapid time to value with actionable decisions that arrive in minutes upon deploying Turbonomic.

VMblog:  Attendees always enjoy a good trade show tchotchke.  Are you guys giving away anything special or interesting this year?

Turbonomic:  We wouldn't be surprised if we have the coolest swag that's actually attainable. Check it out here.  We also have prizes at each of our booth presentations and much more happening on site that your community readers won't want to miss out on.

VMblog:  What are you guys looking forward to most at VMworld this year?

Turbonomic:  The vCommunity is one of the largest in the world, and we are so proud of how engaged and giving the community is.  That is the reason we continue to do everything we can to enable our community through events and sponsorships, and VMworld is the chance to do some real face-to-face engagement with some amazing technologists and community advocates.

VMblog:  What would you say to prospective attendees who are thinking about attending VMworld but aren't sure if it's worth it or not?

Turbonomic:  The one-word answer to that question is clearly a YES!  Between the technical presentations, engagement with industry leading vendors in the Expo Hall and the peer connections made in the Community Hang Space, there really are dozens of ways to get value out of this event.  This is a key reason why we have made our presence there the largest one yet for Turbonomic.

VMblog:  What do you think we need to do collectively as an ecosystem to strengthen the industry?

Turbonomic:  We strive to bring great technical content and business-enabling content to the industry and our community.  Through big events like this, and many others like VMUG, Meetups, and the wide array of open source and cloud conferences we support, we love to bring as much as we can from our experiences back to the community.  As they say "a rising tide lifts all boats" which is why we continuously engage in person and through our Green Circle community.

VMblog:  What are your thoughts about the venue moving from San Francisco to Las Vegas this year?

Turbonomic:  It is helpful for many because the costs will be a little better.  We do enjoy San Francisco as a backdrop to VMworld as it has been such a part of its history, but if Las Vegas means that we can better enable access to the community, then that really is the winning side of it for everyone.

When we asked about the amount of decisions on where to deploy IT as we look to containers, cloud, and so many other new ways to consume IT, Charles Crouchman, CTO of Turbonomic summed it up nicely:

"We're really in the early stages of some very interesting shifts in the industry. Beyond shadow IT - which was more about being able to spin up a VM in minutes vs. what could take weeks or months for internal IT to provision - large organizations and enterprises are just starting to take steps into the cloud. It often begins with dev and test organizations, and in many cases that's still where the cloud is today. You don't see a lot of production cloud deployments, except in cloud-native companies like NetFlix that built their business in the cloud. Most organizations, however, haven't done that, so the cloud is still in its infancy for them."

There will be a lot of focus at the event around cloud and next-generation IT, which will highlight Charles' observations around the hype versus adoption cycle in the enterprise customer environments.
