VMblog:  How does your company and product fit within the VMware ecosystem?

VMblog:  What are you guys looking forward to most at VMworld this year?

Turbonomic:  The vCommunity is one of the largest in the world, and we are so proud of how engaged and giving the community is.  That is the reason we continue to do everything we can to enable our community through events and sponsorships, and VMworld is the chance to do some real face-to-face engagement with some amazing technologists and community advocates.

VMblog:  What would you say to prospective attendees who are thinking about attending VMworld but aren't sure if it's worth it or not?

Turbonomic:  The one-word answer to that question is clearly a YES!  Between the technical presentations, engagement with industry leading vendors in the Expo Hall and the peer connections made in the Community Hang Space, there really are dozens of ways to get value out of this event.  This is a key reason why we have made our presence there the largest one yet for Turbonomic. 

VMblog:  What do you think we need to do collectively as an ecosystem to strengthen the industry?

Turbonomic:  We strive to bring great technical content and business-enabling content to the industry and our community.  Through big events like this, and many others like VMUG, Meetups, and the wide array of open source and cloud conferences we support, we love to bring as much as we can from our experiences back to the community.  As they say "a rising tide lifts all boats" which is why we continuously engage in person and through our Green Circle community.

VMblog:  What are your thoughts about the venue moving from San Francisco to Las Vegas this year?  

Turbonomic:  It is helpful for many because the costs will be a little better.  We do enjoy San Francisco as a backdrop to VMworld as it has been such a part of its history, but if Las Vegas means that we can better enable access to the community, then that really is the winning side of it for everyone.

When we asked about the amount of decisions on where to deploy IT as we look to containers, cloud, and so many other new ways to consume IT, Charles Crouchman, CTO of Turbonomic summed it up nicely:

"We're really in the early stages of some very interesting shifts in the industry. Beyond shadow IT - which was more about being able to spin up a VM in minutes vs. what could take weeks or months for internal IT to provision - large organizations and enterprises are just starting to take steps into the cloud. It often begins with dev and test organizations, and in many cases that's still where the cloud is today. You don't see a lot of production cloud deployments, except in cloud-native companies like NetFlix that built their business in the cloud. Most organizations, however, haven't done that, so the cloud is still in its infancy for them."

There will be a lot of focus at the event around cloud and next-generation IT, which will highlight Charles' observations around the hype versus adoption cycle in the enterprise customer environments.
