VeeamON 2022 Q&A: Cloudian Will Showcase Its Ransomware Protection and Sovereign Cloud Solutions with Veeam

Written by

Are you attending the upcoming VeeamON 2022 event in Las Vegas?  The show is coming up quickly, taking place May 16 - 19, 2022, both virtually and yes, physically, at the ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Ahead of the show, VMblog spoke with Jon Toor, CMO at Cloudian, a leader in data management software for the hybrid cloud.

Read this exclusive pre-show interview between VMblog and Cloudian to learn what they have planned for the upcoming VeeamON 2022 event.

VMblog:  How excited are you that VeeamON is back as a physical event this year?

Jon Toor:  We're definitely looking forward to being back in person. Although Cloudian adapted well to virtual events over the past two years, there's nothing like talking with customers face-to-face about the data management and protection challenges they're facing and how we can help overcome them.

VMblog:  Why should a VeeamON attendee add you to their MUST SEE list?

Toor:  Ransomware protection continues to be a huge concern. Cloudian and Veeam together offer a solution that enables users to quickly recover from an unencrypted backup copy in the event of an attack without having to pay ransom. It can also be implemented as a Ransomware Protection-as-a-Service offering with Cloudian's unique service provider-ready Object Lock mode designed to work with Veeam. In addition, Cloudian has the most security certifications of any on-prem object storage, making it ideal for sensitive data. We'll be highlighting all this at the show as well as how Cloudian storage can serve as the foundation for sovereign clouds.

VMblog:  Talking about your product solutions, can you give readers a few examples of how your offerings are unique?  What are your differentiators?

Toor:  In addition to our security leadership that I mentioned, other key differentiators include the most advanced S3 compatibility (no translations or gateways), our geo-distribution which allows users to put Cloudian storage nodes anywhere and manage them from one place, and bucket-level policy management. With real multi-tenancy, QoS, billing, chargeback and more, Cloudian - along with Veeam - offers the most service provider-ready platform for data protection and storage-as-a-service. As I said, we're also the only vendor enabling service provider-ready Ransomware Protection-as-a-Service that works with Veeam and the only Veeam partner that offers a joint solution as part of the recently announced VMware Sovereign Cloud initiative.

VMblog:  What do you think we need to do collectively as an ecosystem to strengthen the industry?

Toor:  Collectively, we could do a better job eradicating ransomware. There simply is no reason anyone should be paying ransom now. The technology now exists to enable no-ransom recovery, and the cost of this solution is no higher than the cost of unprotected backup solutions. When the majority of IT shops have such a solution in place, ransomware will no longer be a lucrative crime and the issue will vanish. Until then, we as a group have some work to do.

VMblog:  What is it about VeeamON that makes you want to sponsor?

Toor:  Our solution is engineered to work seamlessly with Veeam. On integration, performance and features, we've worked closely with the Veeam team to deliver great value to our mutual customers. Plus, we jointly have an unbeatable solution for ransomware protection. We look forward to meeting everyone at this event!

VMblog:  We've been forced to attend virtual/online events for the past 2+ years.  Attendees are ready to once again throw some amazing tchotchke into their swag bags.  Are you giving away anything special at this event?

Toor:  We'll be giving away Cloudian Ninja key chains and t-shirts and raffling off a Ninja Lego set (picture below).
