DockerCon 2017 Q&A: NGINX Showcases Its Complete and Cloud-Native Application Delivery Platform

Written by

Are you attending DockerCon 2017 in Austin, TX?  If so, I invite you to add NGINX to your MUST SEE list of vendors.

NGINX is the heart of the modern web - helping the world's most innovative companies deliver their sites and applications with performance, reliability, security, and scale. The company offers an award-winning, comprehensive application delivery platform in use on more than 300 million sites worldwide.

Read this exclusive pre-show interview with VMblog and NGINX to learn what they have planned for DockerCon 2017.

VMblog:  As a DockerCon 2017 sponsor, how can people find you this year?

NGINX:  We're going to have 12 members of our staff there and we'll be in a 10x10 booth at Booth #S22.

VMblog:  Do you have a booth theme?

NGINX:  No theme, but we will have some really cool NGINX-Austin centric shirts and stickers available.VMblog:  Why should a DockerCon attendee add you to their MUST SEE list?

NGINX:  NGINX is one of the technologies enabling companies to match increasing demand for faster web experiences at scale. In use by more than 300 million sites worldwide, it now powers more than half of the top 100,000 busiest sites in the world.

VMblog:  Can you give VMblog readers a sneak peek as to what you will be showing off at your booth this year?

NGINX:

  • How to use the NGINX image from the Docker Hub repository and how to create your own NGINX Plus image to easily deploy NGINX in Docker containers.
  • How to deploy NGINX Amplify in Docker containers to monitor NGINX instances in a microservices-based deployment.
  • How to use NGINX and NGINX Plus for Docker Swarm load balancing in conjunction with the native Swarm load balancer and Docker 1.12 features.

VMblog:  And what makes your solution unique?

NGINX:  NGINX is the secret heart of the modern web, powering more than 60 percent of the busiest websites in the world. It is a complete application delivery platform, combining load balancing, content caching, web serving, security controls, and monitoring in one easy to use software package.

NGINX is different from other application delivery platforms because it's software, it's application-centric, goes to the cloud and it's cloud-native. This provides a huge cost advantage over hardware-based platforms, as well as allowing organizations to build and delivery applications with performance, reliability, security, and scale.

VMblog:  How does your company and product fit within the Docker or container ecosystem?

NGINX:  NGINX is the most downloaded application on Docker Hub, with over 10 million pulls to date. NGINX is versatile, and developers use it for many different things. It's used as a web server to serve static content, as a reverse proxy for dynamic content, as a load balancer to scale out and distribute load, and as a content cache to improve performance.

NGINX and NGINX Plus are key components in successful microservices deployments with Docker. Containers are ephemeral by design, so both NGINX and NGINX Plus act as a stable entry point to a Docker application, making it a persistent and reliable place for clients to connect.

VMblog:  Is this your first DockerCon event as a sponsor?

NGINX:  No, we also sponsored in 2015 and 2016. DockerCon is the go-to container industry conference and is the best opportunity to connect and collaborate with everyone involved.

VMblog:  What would you say to prospective attendees who are thinking about attending DockerCon but aren't sure if it's worth it or not?

NGINX:  DockerCon is the best industry event for anyone interested containers, whether it is their first introduction or they've been integrating them into their infrastructure for years.

VMblog:  What do you think we need to do collectively as an ecosystem to strengthen the industry?

NGINX:  Open source means collaboration and upstream contributions. It's important that communities work together to create and maintain the best possible solutions possible.

VMblog:  What do you hope to come away with from exhibiting at DockerCon?

NGINX:  With any industry conference, we look forward to connecting with our community face to face. We also look forward to the opportunity to interact with potential customers and partners, to build our connections and to get real-world feedback on our solutions that we can integrate into future releases.

VMblog:  Attendees always enjoy a good trade show tchotchke.  Are you guys giving away anything special or interesting this year?

NGINX:  Make sure to come by and get one of our really cool NGINX-Austin centric t-shirts and stickers.
