Key Tips for VMworld 2017 - A Survival Guide

In less than two weeks, somewhere north of 23,000 virtualization and cloud users are expected to converge on the streets of Sin City to take part in the annual virtualization reunion known as VMworld.

VMworld US 2017 begins on Aug. 27th, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV and the show returns to the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center.  The event will feature more than 500 unique breakout sessions from VMware and its community of partners and customers, and the expo hall will be packed by more than 200 vendor sponsors and exhibitors.

As the show is nearly upon us, VMblog would like to send out its "survival guide" for those first time attendees or those individuals who might just want a refresher.  Here are a few tips and tricks to help make your VMworld event a little bit more successful or enjoyable.

In a few short weeks, somewhere north of 23,000 virtualization users are expected to converge on the streets of Sin City to take part in the annual virtualization reunion known as VMworld.

Yes, that's right.  VMworld 2016 has pulled up stakes from its traditional venue of San Francisco (thanks to renovation work being done at the Moscone Center -- literally, thank you, it's sort of time for a change of venue don't you think?), this year moving the convention to the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas, August 28th - September 1st.

With the show fast approaching, I figured it was time to once again send out a sort of "survival guide" for those first time attendees or for those folks who might just want a refresher.  So here are a few tips and tricks to help make your VMworld event that much more successful if possible.  For those VMworld vets out there, keep me honest.  If I'm missing anything, please chime in or shoot me a note.

I've been to 13 VMworld events so far, yet each time I walk into the registration hall for the first time, it's like the very first time (only with 20,000 more people).

Citrix Synergy Survival

Let's face it, it's been a wild 12 months for Citrix since last year's Synergy event.  But things appear to be taking shape quite nicely for the company, and I expect we'll get quite the education as to the direction of the company for the remainder of the year and beyond during Synergy 2016.  Things should prove quite illuminating.  But on a personal note, the one thing I will definitely miss at this year's conference will be Mark Templeton.  Not seeing and hearing him on the big stage or catching up with him 1:1 will be difficult after all these years.

But that means that conference attendees will also get their first look at the new Citrix CEO, Kirill Tatarinov.  Tatarinov, a 13 year veteran of Microsoft, where he was most recently Executive Vice President of the Microsoft Business Solutions Division, is putting the finishing touches on the company’s new plan.  Expect to hear all about it during the keynote presentations.Citrix Synergy 2016 takes place May 24-26th and this year the venue moves to fabulous Las Vegas at the Venetian and Sands Expo. Whether this is your first Citrix pilgrimage made to Synergy, or, whether you are an old pro and card carrying alumni member, I'd like to share a few tips and tricks with you to help make your coming event as smooth and as successful as possible.  I'm sure I'll miss a number of key tips or tricks, so please feel free to chime in to help others.
