In today's VMblog Mega Series Q&A, we're speaking with industry expert, Martez Reed, director of technical marketing for Morpheus Data, and we're diving into the topic of Kubernetes and containers.

2017 was a turning point for container orchestration, as other contenders for container orchestration winner waved the white flag and announced support for Kubernetes. Kubernetes as next-gen infrastructure not only abstracts out compute, storage, and network for container workloads, but also provides many features traditionally only offered in PaaS platforms, such as automated deployment, scaling, load balancing, logging and monitoring of container based application workloads. This, plus Kubernetes' maintenance of desired state against a declarative model makes the application developer and operator's lives a lot easier.

VMBlog speaks with Betty Junod, Product Marketing for Docker at DockerCon 2017 in Austin, TX.

Are you attending DockerCon 2017 in Austin, TX?  If so, I invite you to add Hedvig to your MUST SEE list of vendors.

Hedvig provides software-defined storage for enterprises building private, hybrid, or multi-cloud environments. The Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform is the only solution designed for both primary and secondary data, making it ideal for legacy, modern, and backup workloads. It consolidates block, file, and object into a single, API-driven platform that keeps pace with ever-growing data needs. Hedvig's patented Universal Data Plane technology forms a distributed, scale-out cluster that transforms commodity servers or cloud computing into a flexible foundation for bare metal, hypervisor, and container infrastructure.

Are you attending DockerCon 2017 in Austin, TX next month?  If so, I invite you to add Diamanti to your MUST SEE list of vendors.

Diamanti is taking a hardware appliance approach to helping customers deploy and manage containerized workloads in production at scale. Mark Balch, VP of Products at Diamanti, last spoke to me in August 2016 about a common use case they see for customers embracing continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD).

Containers bring many benefits, with huge performance benefits compared to VMs at scale. I followed up with Mark for a more general discussion about TCO of virtual machines versus containers.

To learn even more, you can visit Diamanti at DockerCon 2017 at booth S9.

Are you attending DockerCon 2017 in Austin, TX next month?  If so, I invite you to add Veritas to your MUST SEE list of vendors.

IT teams are adopting containers to realize agility, scale, and efficiency benefits while reducing costs. Although containers are mostly ephemeral, stateful applications using containers often require companies to maintain their data beyond the existence of the individual container. Designed to address the needs of all containerized apps, Veritas HyperScale for Containers uses a revolutionary dual-plane architecture to deliver enterprise capabilities, including integration for backup and disaster recovery.
